iPad Mini Rumors: German Site Picks Up Photos of iPad Mini Mock-up

A series of reports over the past few months have pointed to a remarkably busy next few months for Apple: besides the iPhone 5 , new iPods, new iMacs, a new Retina MacBook Pro, a refreshed third-generation iPad and the much-rumored iPad Mini are all on tap.

The iPhone 5 is undoubtedly the star of Apple’s September 12 event, but a second one is expected this October, and this should focus on the new, 7.85-inch iPad Mini. There have been a handful of earlier leaks that are supposed to be of Apple’s still-unannounced cut-size tablet, and a picture snapped at the recently-concluded IFA trade show in Berlin substantially adds to this pile.

German site Giga.detook images of what could be a die cast mold of the iPad Mini at the event. The metallic mold shows off the smaller dock connector that has earlier been seen on several leaks of the iPhone 5, plus redesigned speaker grills.

Giga.de also put the iPhone 4S side-by-side with the supposed iPad Mini mold, which shows off the smaller tablet’s advantage in thinness. It loses the thickness of the iPhone 4S’ rear glass cover, which brings it to near-parity with the iPhone 5 in terms of thickness.

In terms of design, the iPad Mini die cast mold reminds of an up-sized iPod Touch rather than a down-sized iPad. It features thinner side bezels that are reminiscent more of Apple’s media player than its tablet.
