Toyota announced this week two separate recalls, one affecting the 2016 Sienna, and another involving the new RAV4, as well as the Lexus ES 350 and RX 350.
According to Toyota, the 2016 Sienna may have incorrect front seatbelt height adjusters on the B-pillar. If the Sienna is involved in a crash, the adjuster may separate, thus increasing the chances of severe injuries.
The Sienna recall is a relatively small one, as only 230 vehicles were found to be possibly affected. Owners will be notified via first class mail, and if dealers find that the height adjusters are faulty, they will replace them at no extra charge.
Toyota is also recalling about 4,170 examples of the 2016 RAV4, about 90 examples of the 2016 Lexus RX350, and about 12,400 units of the 2016 Lexus ES350. For this second recall, the vehicles come with a brake actuator assembly that may have a faulty component that was damaged during manufacture. The actuator activates features such as the vehicles’ anti-lock braking system, traction control, and vehicle stability control, and if damaged, this could result in an unstable vehicle, and greater risks of a crash.
Owners of the vehicles covered by the second recall will be notified by Toyota via first class mail, and can take their cars to official Toyota and Lexus dealers, who will then check the brake actuator’s serial number. Replacements will be done free of charge, if found to be damaged.
As of now, it isn’t sure whether any people have been injured or if there were any accidents connected to the issues.
