10-inch BlackBerry PlayBook Appears Online, Launch Date Remains A Mystery

Right now, people don’t know what to make of Research in Motion and its BlackBerry series of smartphones and tablets.

Right now, people don’t know what to make of Research in Motion and its BlackBerry series of smartphones and tablets. Nonetheless, the troubled Canadian company appears to be dead-set on pushing forward with its new products, such as the 10-inch version of the BlackBerry PlayBook.

Speaking of this device, a user on Vietnamese forum Tinte shared a few photosof the rumored 10-inch PlayBook, which suggest a design similar to the original 7-inch version.

The post of “vuhai6” included a poster for the new PlayBook suggesting that the device will be compatible with 4G LTE connectivity. Also featured was a 7-inch tablet, presumably the 4G-enabled version of the 7-inch PlayBook. While the photos appear to be legitimate, it’s not clear where or how the forum member was able to procure the images.

That said, the release of the 10-inch PlayBook tablet isn’t even a sure thing, staying true to the tradition of varying BlackBerry and RIM rumors. Previously, it seemed all but given that RIM would release the 10-inch PlayBook.

BlackBerry-friendly N4BB site refuted this last month, stating that RIM would rather focus its energy on a new-generation BlackBerry smartphone, and effectively put a stop to the new tablet’s development.

RIM is currently working on bringing the new BlackBerry 10 platform up to speed and launching devices that would run on the new OS. With that in mind, it may be a few months into 2013 when we finally see new BlackBerry devices out in the market.

Whether the 10-inch, 4G-enabled PlayBook will be one of them appears to be something only RIM can answer for sure.
