Many believe that the BlackBerry is in a bad position against its competitors at the moment, and that the upcoming BlackBerry 10 hardware would be its saving grace. However, a Research in Motion (RIM) spokesperson has announced, that there will be no new hardware presented at the BlackBerry World event in Orlando, Florida, and that the focus will be on the BlackBerry 10 software instead.

Research in Motion is said to show the new BlackBerry 10 beta toolkit, and will give attendees the chance to use a Dev Alpha device, which is not exactly the new hardware just yet. Those present in the event will also get to see demos of the new apps for the upcoming operating system.

This could be bad news for BlackBerry fans and enthusiasts, as many believe that the new BlackBerry 10 phones will be the products that will make RIM’s offerings competitive with the more popular iOS and Android-powered handsets. Considering the company’s current situation, the new hardware will surely be a lot of help.

The new BlackBerry OS is based on the QNX platform that is also used in the Playbook. The operating system is said to support other devices aside from smartphones, which is critical to RIM’s plans, if it wants to compete with Microsoft, Apple and Google systems.

There is still a big chance that the new hardware will be unveiled as early as August; something that BlackBerry fans should look forward to. BlackBerry 10 phones that come with QWERTY keyboard are expected to arrive in early 2013.
