Yes, BB10 has been delayed once again, but we’re nonetheless curious as to what BlackBerry users can expect on the new operating system.
The latest word from the folks at RIM suggests that BB10 will include RIM’s own version of Siri, the popular “personal assistant” feature of Apple’s iOS platform.
The new Siri-esque voice recognition system reportedly involves Nuance – this is the same company that helped Siri become a reality for Apple. But that’s just one of the many new features we can expect on BlackBerry 10.
The World Vendor Portal would help developers in the process of testing their apps while giving them a glimpse of what other developers are up to. Having this in place should be a good indicator that BB10, once released, will live up to its potential as the latest and greatest BlackBerry platform to date, at least in terms of compatible apps.
The past few years have not at all been kind to RIM, even if their BlackBerry phones remain popular for business-oriented users. The new features above and more could give RIM what it needs to become relevant again in a market where Android reigns supreme, thanks to several phones running the platform.
We can’t discount iOS either, which runs on only one type of phone (the iPhone), but boasts of a market share several times as large as BlackBerry’s. Being unique could help the BlackBerry OS stand out from Android and iOS and possibly take some of their market share, even if RIM may still have to settle for being a distant third.
