With BlackBerry Jam Americas now a memory, we now have the inevitable spate of leaked photos and spec sheets and rumors regarding next-gen BlackBerry handsets to look forward to. For Canada’s Research in Motion, BlackBerry 10 will be a do-or-die operating system, and so would the phones that would run on the new OS.

One of these phones is the BlackBerry Laguna, a pure touchscreen phone that would be released by Verizon Wireless early next year. That is, might we add, provided no further delays occur and BB10 is launched in the first quarter of 2013 as expected.

The Laguna is one of RIM’s L-Series all-touch handsets; the L-Series was notably demoed at BlackBerry Jam, and some how-to videos have leaked on the Internet since last week’s developer’s expo.

According to GSMArena, by way of RapidBerry, the Laguna will be a device that sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.5 to 1.7 GHz. RapidBerry claims that this will be a dual-core processor. The Snapdragon S4 will be backed up by 1 GB RAM, and the device will come with a 4.2-inch screen with 1,280 x 768 resolution and an impressive 335 pixels-per-inch density. Other specs include 16 GB internal memory, 1,800 mAh battery, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera.

Additionally, we can expect the Laguna to support 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and NFC. The battery will, fortunately, be removable, according to the leaked specs.

What could be most interesting is the Face Detect for Phone Calls feature – this may either be RIM’s version of Android’s Face Unlock, or a new twist on Apple’s Face Time front camera for video calling.
