Blizzard Deliberating on Console Possibilities for Diablo III

It’s been twelve years in the making, but as most of us know by now, it shall finally see the light of day.

It’s been twelve years in the making, but as most of us know by now, it shall finally see the light of day. We’re referring to Diablo III, the latest installment in Blizzard Entertainment’s popular role-playing game series for the PC.

With PC games floundering in comparison to console games and other alternatives, one has to wonder if and when Diablo III will be playable on a console.

According to Paul Sams, Blizzard COO, the software company is indeed exploring their options regarding a console version of Diablo III, and should such a version be released, it will still provide the same user experience, albeit with a few adjustments. He downplayed the possibility of platforms or business models playing a role in Blizzard’s business decisions, emphasizing the importance of ensuring a game enjoys universal appeal.

Additionally, Sams stated that the opportunity to release Diablo III on console is an “exciting” opportunity, but would be hesitant to do so if it would require an unreasonable amount of money and effort.

Considering Blizzard’s take on the matter, it looks like chances of a console version are quite good, however, it might be a while before we see one. Blizzard has been known for meticulously crafting their games and possessing an eye for detail, which is why the twelve-year wait for a Diablo sequel was hardly surprising.

It would be reasonable to expect Blizzard to work out any kinks on the PC version (such as the lack of a player-versus-player mode for initial releases) before even thinking about getting the game out for those who prefer gaming on consoles.
