Tech site Boy Genius Report posted some interesting details about the Samsung Galaxy S3, and they have nothing to do with specifications or official launch dates. According to BGR, the Galaxy S3 will take center stage at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London as its “official device”.

This could indeed be a good justification for what looks to be a London announcement for the Galaxy S3 on May 3. And if you’ve been paying attention to advertisements, athletes such as David Beckham are proudly representing Samsung.

But what are the chances Samsung would come out with an Olympic-themed Galaxy S3?

That just might happen, given that Acer is another 2012 Olympics sponsor, and that they are releasing the Iconia Tab A510, which would feature the Olympic logo on the back. This tablet shall be running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, just like the Galaxy S3.

Other possible Galaxy S3 features as of now include a quad-core Samsung Exynos CPU, 12-megapixel rear-facing camera, NFC support (which could play a large part in the coming Olympics) and a screen similar in size to the Galaxy Nexus.

As expected, Samsung did not confirm nor deny the above report, and they have yet to give their official word on the Galaxy S3’s tentative May 3 launch.

Our take on this?

First things first – let’s wait for May 3 to come and go, then we could anticipate actual release dates, followed by the implications and consequences of Samsung’s sponsorship of the 2012 Olympics.
